How We Play Skeeball The game is simple, and you can easily just show up and roll when it's your turn. However, if you'd like to dive deeper into the specifics, here are the rules and guidelines for our league. The Golden Rule Be excellent to each other! While everyone plays to win, this is first and foremost a social league. At the end of the day, it's just skeeball! Our main focus is on keeping the atmosphere friendly and fun for everyone.

Teams

  • A full team requires a minimum of 5 players on the roster. The league may add free agents to teams with fewer than 10 players. (Note: If you have more than 5, we'll do our best not to add anyone to your roster).

  • A maximum of 12 players can compete for a team during a single match. We recommend having 6-8 players on your roster to ensure you have enough people each week.

  • Each team must designate a captain who will be the official point of contact for all league communications.

  • Please check in with the host upon arrival. A team that does not have enough players within 5 minutes after the start of the official start time will forfeit the match.

Game Play

  • A match consists of two teams playing 12 regular frames plus one "Mystery Frame" that takes place after the 6th frame.

  • Matches are played in a head-to-head format using two adjacent lanes.

  • For each frame, each team will have one designated player roll a full game of 9 balls. Both competing players will roll their frames at the same time, one player per lane.

  • Before the match, captains can play Rock Paper Scissors for lane choice. The winning captain chooses one lane, and their team will roll on that lane for the entire match. The opposing team will use the other adjacent lane. Team & Player Rules

  • A minimum of 3 players is required to play a match (subs are allowed - if you don't have a sub, you can go find a random person from the bar to sub, or a player from another team)

  • Every team member present must roll at least one full frame.

  • Frames must be distributed as evenly as possible among all players present. You cannot have one player roll three frames while another has only rolled one.

  • Players must maintain a consistent rolling order throughout the match.

Gameplay Rules

  • Teams will use the same lane for the entire match. To decide who gets lane choice, captains can play Rock Paper Scissors before the match begins.

  • All balls must be rolled with both feet on the ground behind the machine. Rolling from the side is not permitted. Any infraction of this rule will result in a score of zero for that ball.

  • Bank shots off the side walls are not permitted.

  • If a ball does not enter a scoring area and returns to the player, it can be re-thrown.

  • Each team gets 3 re-skees to use through the game (see Mulligans below)

  • Ties will be determined by a 1 game rolloff. Each player on each team will throw 1 ball, and you must rotate players until all balls have been thrown. All players on both teams must roll. Scoring The team with the highest total score from their 12 frames wins the match. Mulligans (Re-skees)

  • Each team receives 3 mulligans per match.

  • If a player is unhappy with their score in a frame, they can use a team mulligan to re-roll the entire frame. The score from the second attempt will be the official score, even if it is lower than the first.

  • To use a mulligan, a player must wait for their opponent to finish their frame, then notify the host that they are taking a mulligan before starting their re-roll.

  • If both players in a frame want to use a mulligan, the second player must declare their mulligan before the 3rd ball of their opponent's re-roll is thrown. You cannot wait to see your opponent's final mulligan score before deciding to use your own. Mystery Round

  • After the 6th frame, a Mystery Round is played. One roller from each team will compete in a special challenge determined by the host.

  • The winner of the Mystery Round earns 50 points for their team; the loser receives 0 points.

  • The host will choose the challenge, which may or may not be from the list below.

  • The Price is Right: The host picks a target score. The player who hits that score exactly, without going over, wins.

  • Relay: Each team member rolls one of the 9 balls in a rotating order until all balls are thrown. The highest total score wins.

  • Backwards Between-the-Legs: The player must face away from the lane and roll all 9 balls between their legs. The highest score wins.

  • Non-Dominant Hand: Players must use their non-dominant hand for all 9 rolls. The highest score wins.

  • 50s Only: Only balls that land in the 50-point pocket are counted. The player with the most 50s wins.

  • In the case of ties, the team with the highest score will win the round. Or, when not possible, the host may choose to re-roll the bonus round with new players from both teams. Machine Malfunctions & Scoring Issues

  • Skeeball machines can sometimes make scoring errors - it's just part of the game. If you witness a scoring error, you must immediately bring it to the attention of the host and the opposing team.

  • If both team captains agree on a score correction, the game continues with the adjusted score.

  • If the captains cannot agree, the host will make a final ruling based on the available information. The host's decision is final.

  • Scoring errors will be corrected by adjusting the score, not by re-rolling frames.

  • Any other unexpected issues that may arise will be decided by the host Awards & Trophies At the end of the regular season, teams are ranked by matches won, with total points used as a tiebreaker. Top teams will advance to a postseason tournament to crown the league champion! Some nights, after the games are completed a "High Roller" tournament may be held for individuals. The player with the single highest score of the night wins a free beer.
